Cable fly coached during a small group session at Atypical Trainer, Slough

HOW A GROUP SESSION RUNS

It's a proper coached session, not a class. Everyone gets a warm-up, a main block and a finisher, but the movements are individualised — one person might be goblet squatting while their mate is under a bar, because that's where each of them is. Łukasz moves between you correcting form and pushing effort. Sixty minutes, in and out.

WHO TRAINS TOGETHER

Couples who want the same goal and someone else in the house eating the same way. Friends who've both said 'we should really do something' for about three years. Colleagues from the Trading Estate booking a lunchtime slot. And the odd parent-and-teenager combo, which works better than you'd think.

COMMON QUESTIONS

No. Every exercise has an easier and a harder version, and each of you gets the one that fits.
Sometimes — ask. Most groups form themselves from friends, couples or colleagues.
The session goes ahead for whoever's there. Regular no-shows can switch to one-to-one or a different slot.
